About this day
Hawke's Bay is New Zealand's oldest wine region and one of its warmest, with cellar doors clustered around Havelock North, Bridge Pa and the Gimblett Gravels.
Napier itself is the other half of the day — rebuilt in art deco after the 1931 earthquake and unlike anywhere else in the country — with Te Mata Peak above Havelock North giving the best view over the whole bay.
We meet cruise ships at Napier Port, and a private driver is the surest way to see the region and be back aboard comfortably before all-aboard time.

Auckland out to Rotorua, or Christchurch through to Queenstown, are two of the most popular one-way days we drive.
