About this day
Taupō sits far enough south of Auckland that the drive is a day in itself, which makes it a natural one-way scenic day rather than an out-and-back. You travel with your luggage, stop where the day suggests, and finish beside the lake.
Because the vehicle is private, the route is a conversation rather than a fixed programme. Some guests break the run in the Waikato, others carry straight on and spend the afternoon around Taupō itself.
