About this day
Rotorua and Taupō sit at either end of the same volcanic corridor, and the drive between them passes through some of the most active thermal country in the North Island.
Huka Falls, where the Waikato River squeezes into a narrow chasm, is the standard first stop, with the lakefront and the view south to Tongariro to follow.
It is close enough to be a genuinely relaxed day — no early start required, and plenty of room to add a thermal park on the way back.
