Arriving at Auckland Airport: what happens after you land
Auckland is where most long-haul visitors first meet New Zealand, usually after 12 hours or more in the air. Nothing about the process is difficult, but it helps to know the order it happens in — and to have the ride out of the terminal already sorted.

- 1Immigration
Most visitors need an NZeTA before boarding, arranged online well before you fly. Have your passport and travel details ready; eGates handle many nationalities.
- 2Biosecurity
New Zealand takes this seriously. Declare all food, plant material, wooden items and outdoor or hiking gear — declaring costs nothing, not declaring can be expensive. Clean boots before you pack them.
- 3Baggage and customs
Collect bags, then walk through customs. Detector dogs work the hall; they're looking for food, not trouble.
- 4Arrivals hall
Once you're through, you're in the public area. If you've booked a private transfer, your driver is waiting here with your name — no queue, no app, no fare negotiation.
