About this day
The Waitākere Ranges sit right on Auckland's western edge: dense native bush, ridgeline lookouts over the Tasman, and the black-sand surf beaches of Piha, Karekare and Bethells.
The roads in are narrow and steep with almost no parking at the popular spots in summer — which is why being dropped at the beach and collected again beats driving yourself by a wide margin.
It works well as a half day, or as a full day paired with the Kumeu vineyards on the way back into town.
