About this day
The drive from Queenstown to Dunedin crosses the goldfields of Central Otago — Cromwell, Alexandra, the Maniototo — before dropping to the coast and one of the most architecturally intact Victorian cities in the southern hemisphere.
It is a long day return, so many guests take it one-way with luggage and sightseeing built in, which turns a transfer into the best part of the trip.
In Dunedin the usual draw is the railway station, the university quarter and the Otago Peninsula, where albatross and penguins live within half an hour of the city centre.
