The Bay of Islands is Northland's headline destination — a scatter of islands in warm, sheltered water, historic towns on the shoreline, and the Treaty grounds at Waitangi where modern New Zealand was founded.

The Bay of Islands is far enough from Auckland that a day trip is possible but not enjoyable. Two or three nights lets you get out on the water, cross to Russell and spend proper time at Waitangi.
The drive north passes through the kind of country most visitors want to look at rather than navigate — winding coastal highway, small towns, forest. It makes a good touring day in its own right.
We handle the run from Auckland regularly, either straight through as a transfer or slowly as a touring day with time to stop.
